Managing systems for increasing productivity of pulses in dryland agriculture uri icon

abstract

  • Successful pulse production in dry areas depends on the ability to obtaineconomic yields With limited water supply. Management systems shouldconsider: (1) matching crops and cropping sequences with seasonal rainfall;(2) cultural practices designed to maximise water conservation; (3) soilmanagement to prevent compaction and the formation of tillage pans; (4)adequate control of pests; (5) appropriate seedbed preparation and fertilization;and (6) timely planting. These objectives can be accomplished usingconservation tillage systems, improved methods of fertilization and exploitationof nitrogen fixation, and appropriate mechanisation
