abstract

  • Africa RISING and the InternationalCrops Research Institute for theSemi-Arid-Tropics (ICRISAT) GeospatialUnit in Patancheru, India, havedeveloped land use maps of AfricaRISING project intervention sites insouthern Mali. The new maps, which were produced inmid-August 2015, will ease the process ofidentifying and visualizing different cropdomains and possible natural resourcemanagement (NRM) sites within theAfrica RISING intervention villages inMali. The maps were produced usinghigh resolution imagery from NASA andthe National Oceanic and AtmosphericAdministration (NOAA).?These maps will show us where tofocus our sustainable intensificationefforts in Mali; they will also guidepreparation of country strategiesfor sustainable primary productivity,?explains Birhanu Zemadim. ?Wewill use the ground survey datathey provide to prepare geospatialproducts associated with land use/landcover, crop intensity, length of growingperiods, land use changes over theperiod, and NRM technologies.? headds
