Fertigation in Vegetable Crops for Higher Productivity and Resource Use Efficiency uri icon

abstract

  • The fertigation allows application of right amounts of plant nutrientsuniformly to the wetted root volume zone where most of the active roots areconcentrated and this helps enhance NUE. Fertigation is considered eco-friendlyas it controls leaching of nutrients especially nitrogen(N)-NO3 .In fertigation thewater soluble nutrients move with the wetting front and thus precise managementof irrigation quantity along with the rate and timing of nutrient application are ofcritical importance to obtain desired results in terms of productivity and nutrientuse efficiency. A review is made of the current literature on the use of fertigationcovering various aspects of vegetable production including its advantages andconstraints to its adoption especially at the practical agriculture level in India
