Survey of the Groundnut Pod-borers in South India uri icon

  • Groundnut pods are att~cked before harvestby several vertebrate and invertebrate pests.Among invertebrates, several arthropods suchas earwigs, termites, wire-worms, false wireworms, white grubs, ted ants, Spodoptera etc.,feed on deve1opingpotis (Wightman andAmin, 1988). Damaged pods have little commercialvalue because either the kernels aredamaged or external damage to the pod wallrenders them vulnerable to fungal infectionand aflatoxin contaminati.on (McDonald andHarkt).ess, 1967)
