The Physical Environment uri icon

  • It is appropriate that the technical sessions of theSorghum in the Eighties Symposium should startwith the physical environment because it is themedium in which the biological material expressesitself. The "properties" of the medium such asradiation, rainfall, temperature, and soils controlthe rate of the biological processes such asnutrient uptake, photosynthesis, respiration, drymatter accumulation, etc. An understanding of theinteractions between the properties and processesshould lead us to develop principles forimproved productivity of the sorghum crop
