Ammonification in air-dried tropical lowland Histosols uri icon

abstract

  • The NH4+-N content of fresh organic soils sampled from wetland rice areas in the Philippines was 5-10 mg kg-1, and remained constant during anaerobic incubation for 8 weeks. Air dried soils contained 50-200 mg NH4+-N kg-1 before incubation began, indicating that ammonification took place during air drying; during subsequent incubation of air dried soils further NH4+ was released, 200-500 mg NH4+-Nkg-1 soil being produced after 4 weeks
