Varietal Generation and Output uri icon

abstract

  • The substantive findings in Chapters 6?17 aresynthesized and reviewed in this and the followingchapter, which draw heavily on Walker et al.,2014. Findings are synthesized from two perspectives:a cross-sectional analysis across the20 crops in 2009?2011 and a before-and-aftercomparison with the 1998 benchmark and the2009?2011 data. Findings in this chapter areorganized from the evaluation framework of inputsand outputs that was described in Chapter 3.Hypotheses from that chapter are revisited at theend of each thematic section. Where appropriate, results from South Asia reported in Chapters 13and 14 are cited to provide a spatial benchmarkfor the outputs of data analysis in sub-SaharanAfrica (SSA)
  • This chapter focuses on the improved cultivar generation of various crops (maize, cassava, rice, bean, potato, cowpea, wheat, soyabean, sweet potato, yam, sorghum, groundnut, banana, chickpea, pigeon pea, barley, pearl millet, faba bean, lentil and pea) in Africa South of the Sahara. Information of cultivar output of these crops is also pressented
